Clomid is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator (SERM). A SERM comprising two isomers, enclomiphene and zuclomiphene, with differing half-lives and receptor behaviour. Raises gonadotropin output by blocking hypothalamic oestrogen feedback.

Post-cycle and hormonal support compounds fall into two families that are often confused: SERMs act at the oestrogen receptor, aromatase inhibitors reduce the conversion of androgens to oestrogen upstream.
